I am having trouble extracting nearly all the files in a .7z file I compressed several months ago. When I try to extract the files, only 2 out of the 11 files are extracted and an error message pops up saying:
"7-Zip: Diagnostic messages:
Data error in 'File Name.' File is broken"
Another .7z file of audio files I compressed at the same time as the other file extracts perfectly fine.
Please respond with anything I can do to get access to these important files.
Thank you.

Probably ot was hardware error (maybe at compessing time) : bad or overclocked RAM / CPU. Or HDD/CD transfer error.

Yes, I'm having the same trouble. I have 3 backup copies and all of them do not work. I get the same type of error message:
Data error in 'Sheets.xls'. File is broken
I read that I could possibly recover my files by creating a dummy 7z archive and then resetting the header info (using a HEX editor). It would be nice if someone with such knowledge can provide instructions on how to go about doing that.

Try extracting with the exact version that was used to compress them. Have you always used 4.65, or have you used any of the beta versions?
Unfortunately, there's most likely some kind of bit-error in PHM_ascorbate_generate_091907/PHM+ox_asc_NPT_40ns_part_3.dcd that is causing it and all following files to fail. It must be in the last block.

Also same problem, 7z giving me Data Error file is broken messages on large size 7z file ( about 7 gb), tried several times sometimes it can extract the files inside, which lead me to suspect maybe its related to harddrive Input Output maybe file is too defragmented or somethin
So I tried defragmenting that drive, and it works! no more Data Error file is broken, I think 7z not very dependable to use for large size file if this is the case. hope its better in the next version.

update: seems to be the "data error file is broken" is because of memory RAM problem somehow corrupted, after shutdown my computer (not restart). then extracting the same 7z file result with no error.

Dummy 7z archive can help to recover broken archive headers.
But in your case the headers probably are OK.
Show
7z l a.7z -slt > a.txt
I'm having the same issue with quite a few important archives. I have performed
7z l a.7z -slt > a.txt
But the output is rather long as there are many files in the archive. For example though:

Any thoughts?

I have the same problem too.
I have copied the archive file to another computer extract there fine. And copied back the extracted files back to my pc.
For now I dont now the reason.
I used the same version on other computer.
Also same problem, 7z giving me Data Error file is broken messages on large size 7z file ( about 7 gb), tried several times sometimes it can extract the files inside, which lead me to suspect maybe its related to harddrive Input Output maybe file is too defragmented or somethin

update: seems to be the "data error file is broken" is because of memory RAM problem somehow corrupted, after shutdown my computer (not restart). then extracting the same 7z file result with no error.
"Data Error file is broken messages"
You get the error you describe because you are NOT rebooting after install.
