Windows 11: 7-Zip no longer adds recently opened archives to the Taskbar Jump List
Affected software: 7-Zip 26.02 (x64)
Operating system: Windows 11 26H2 (Build 26300.9711) (x64)
Description
Since upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, 7-Zip no longer displays recently opened archives in its Windows Taskbar Jump List.
When right-clicking the pinned 7-Zip icon in the Windows taskbar, the list of recently opened archives is completely empty. The same applies to the 7-Zip entry in the Windows Start menu.
This issue is reproducible on multiple independent Windows 11 installations and is therefore unlikely to be caused by an individual user configuration.
Steps to reproduce
Install 7-Zip 26.02 on Windows 11.
Pin the 7-Zip File Manager (7zFM.exe) to the taskbar.
Set 7-Zip File Manager as the default application for .zip files.
Open several ZIP archives by double-clicking them in Windows File Explorer.
Right-click the 7-Zip icon in the taskbar.
Expected behavior
The recently opened ZIP archives should appear in the 7-Zip Taskbar Jump List, as they did under Windows 10.
Actual behavior
The Jump List remains empty. No recently opened archives are displayed.
Additional observations
Windows Jump Lists work correctly for other applications.
Recently opened text files appear correctly in the Windows Recent Items folder (shell:recent).
ZIP files opened with 7-Zip do not appear in shell:recent.
The Windows setting "Show recently opened items in Start, Jump Lists, and File Explorer" is enabled.
Re-pinning 7-Zip to the taskbar does not resolve the issue.
The issue occurs on multiple Windows 11 installations.
Technical aspects worth investigating
Could this be related to changes in Windows 11 Shell integration?
In particular, it may be worth checking:
Whether 7-Zip correctly registers recently opened archives using SHAddToRecentDocs.
Whether the application's AppUserModelID is correctly associated with its taskbar shortcut.
Whether the file associations and corresponding ProgID registrations provide the necessary Jump List integration under Windows 11.
Question
Has the Jump List integration been intentionally changed or removed in recent versions of 7-Zip, or could this be a Windows 11 compatibility issue?
