As the configuration manager for an IT system that currently runs Windows 10 semi-annual channel (22H2) I’m currently investigating the dependencies of 7 zip current versions 21.07 and 23.01 , aware that as of 14th October 2025, Windows 10 semi-annual channel will no longer be supported.
Options to bring the hosting environment back to a supported product include the use of the annual channel release of Windows 11 or Windows 11 LTSC when the latter becomes available.
To make an informed decision we require the following information regarding the Windows OS dependency in relation to 7 Zip current and future versions:
Do you have a policy on supporting Windows LTSC versions with your product. If so, what is the policy or where can we find it?
Is your product/software routinely developed and tested against the latest Windows LTSC release through life to ensure compatibility?
Do you have a plan to develop your product/software to both Windows 11 and Windows 11 LTSC upon release?
Are you aware of any windows features that are removed from Windows LTSC versions that your product has a dependency on? Do you have any wider dependency mapping for your product?
If we run your product in a Windows LTSC environment, is it still supported within your normal support policy?
If using an LTSC version are you aware of any technical/software errata (such as known issues or limitations) released within the product release notes? If so, please could you provide a copy / URL of the errata.
What is the future release train schedule for your product Vs that of windows operating environments.
If there is no plan to support LTSC or regression test against this OS, is there a mechanism to request this?
We look forward to your response
Many thanks,
7-Zip works in any version of Windows.
We have no alternative versions of 7-Zip.
So just use latest version of 7-Zip.
