Today I encountered a problem with how 7-Zip extracts files, specifically that it always buffer the file somewhere in C:/
I have set up my computer to have C:/ dedicated to Windows with a fairly small size, and a much larger partition that i call S:/ (stands for: "Storage:/" )
In this case my setup was like this:
Large_Zip_file.zip
C:/ (not enough space available to contain the uncompressed version of Large_Zip_file.zip)
S:/Downloads
S:/Installations
I have also installed 7-Zip in:
S:/Installations/7-Zip
I had downloaded Large_Zip_file.zip to S:/Downloads and unpacked it to S:/Installations, in an ideal situation the file should never enter any part of C:/ at all, but still my computer did run out of hard disc space in C:/ when I unpacked the file because it was buffered somewhere in C:/Admin/???/
THE SOLUTION:
The solution to this would be to unpack it directly to the destination, and if you want to perform error corrections or whatnot I suggest you unpack it to (in this case) something like this:
From:
S:/Downloads
To:
S:/Installations/Destination/Temp_7-Zip
and when the unpacking is done you copy the files to:
S:/Installations/Destination
