I tried using the "Test RunProgram Filter" macro. It took around a 
second to execute the formater and replace the whole text. I used the 
Allegro file which is reported by the editor as 715799 bytes long and 
with 15491 lines.
As a reference: the command line version takes 0.2 s here:

$ time ./email-fmt < allegro._tx > /dev/null

real    0m0.207s
user    0m0.034s
sys     0m0.023s
