Sorry for the slight delay here -- one's day job you know!

As you suggested, the editor.exe handled the console change perfectly when
it was not running in gdb.

The re-compiled setedit executable also runs perfectly now with the patch
you sent me.

I am glad that I have been of some tiny bit of use here: actually I'm
tickled pink.

I must thank you also for your care and attention not only to the editor,
but to your thoughtfulness in helping my own particular problem. Your
patient and very clear explanations at a level I could understand, and
kindness to a stranger with a small problem quite touched me.
