Android 4.4.2
ServeStream 0.6.8
App Store : F-Droid

Bug description

May happen on poor Internet connections, with unexpected random IP stream glitches. ServeStream loses audio stream and does not reconnects automatically to the chosen stream server. Behavior repeatedly observed with several kind of mp3 web radios. ServeStream then displays an error message such as : "this file format is not supported". The error message keeps displaying, with no way to manually cancel it. The error message prevents the screen light to switch off automatically, which in turn drains the battery heavily.

Steps to trigger the bug

  1. Connect the phone to the Internet through Wi-Fi
  2. Open ServeStream
  3. Start a stream
  4. Listen to it
  5. Close ServeStream and let it play in the background OR keep ServeStream in the foreground, it does not matter
  6. Wait for ServeStream to drop the stream unexpectedly on poor Internet connections.
  7. Observe that the audio stops
  8. Observe the error message "File format not supported" popping-up
  9. Close ServeStream ; the error message permanently keeps displaying
  10. Open ServeStream : the error message permanently keeps displaying
  11. Open whatever other application : the error message permanently keeps displaying over any other display, e.g. keyboard

Workarounds

  • Reboot the phone
  • Start to stream another feed with ServeStream ; it may or may not remove the error message.
