This is a strange behaviour happening on Ubuntu 12.10 with gnome-session-fallback.
Summary: The applet can be added to the panel, one can select which sensors to display, change their icon, etc. flawlessly. If we change the display mode to "icons only", it displays as expedted (icons only) but after reboot nothing is displayed for applet.
System:
- Mountain Systems laptop (www.mountain.es), "StudioMX 17 ivy" model
- Mem: 7,7 GiB
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz × 8
- Graphics: "Unknown". But it has an Nvidia Optimus (Intel i915 + nvidia GeForce GTX 660M)
- OS type: 64 bits
- Disk: Kingston SH103S3240G solid state drive
Steps to reproduce:
You will will have now installed:
- gnome-panel 1:3.6.0-0ubuntu2
- lm-sensors 1:3.3.1-2ubuntu2
- sensors-applet 3.0.0-0.2ubuntu1
6.. Win+Alt + right-click the top panel, Add to panel, Sensors applet
7.. Enable/disable the desired sensors to display. Close prefs window. Everything works as expected
Issue:
8.. Select Preferences / General Options / Display sensors as "icon only".
9.. Reboot and login again.
Expected result: The applet should be visible and should display the icons for the sensors (just the icons).
Obtained result: Nothing is displayed, as if the appled was never added to the panel. No applet icons are visible. there's nowhere to right-click to enter Preferences again or remove the applet from the panel.
But the applet is running. Killing sensors-applet makes the applet finally display something (a thin vertical line) and a dialog is displayed telling that the applet has just died and prompting me to reload it.
(See attached screenshot for a graphical summary)
Note: this issue of nothing being displayed for applet when in "icon only" mode happens for the first time after a reboot.
But if the user adds the applet to the panel and just closes the session and then logins again, the applet is displayed properly. It will not survive a reboot, though.
I can provide some more information if needed. Thanks.
