Question that hopefully somebody on this list will be able to help me with. What I need is a solid, standalone SNPP server/client which allows me to receive a message via SNPP to a server and pipe the message and the destination out to a seperate command or script. Is sendpage capable of doing such a thing? We use a GSM modem to send messages via SMS and not IXO/TAP via analogue dialup anymore. (Used to use sendpage many moons ago!) So I use alternative software to do the SMS sending, but this doesn't have an SNPP server component. I'm aware that there's a net::snpp:server perl module, but I can't seem to find any good examples of its use. Perhaps I can use sendpage and write a small wrapper for the emailcc option and use the "null" paging central option? Would that do what I want? Hi, This is a second request for help. Have been using sendpage on a dedicated system but want to upgrade it to work on my qmail server. Running vpopmail, etc, as per qmailrocks.org. Looking for help in setting it back up. Using a sub-domain of page.whoweare.com to separate out what goes to sendpage. Can anybody help or direct me to help or hire someone or ????? Thank you Randi |

Right now, this is what I get > when I issue the command, 'sendpage -d -t' You can tell it that it's a direct connection instead. I haven't actually tried this with a running modem, and there may be unexpected results. Especially if both processes have the device open. From the sendpage.cf examples: [modem:direct] carrier-detect=off dtrtime=0 init="" initok="" dial="" dialok="" dev=/dev/somewhere See if that works. It won't attempt to dial, init, or hang up (with dtr). Some platforms may cycle dtr _anyway_ just from having something open() or close() the device, so I really am not sure what'll happen. :) Good luck! -- Kees Cook @outflux.net |

Hi,
I am in the process of evaluating sendpage as a possible replacement of =20
qpage, which we run currently in production.
It is easier for me to play around with it on the same box on which qpage=
=20
is already installed, configured and running. The problem I am facing is =
=20
the use of the modem.
Since qpage is running on this box, modem is already in use, permanently.=
=20
Is there some way to tell sendpage not to try and initialize the modem, =20
but instead use the existing connection? Right now, this is what I get =20
when I issue the command, 'sendpage -d -t'

Note how all the Nextel numbers on that page end in 6683. The usenet instructions I found said take any Nextel number, and substitute 6683 (NOTE) for the last four digits. Just doesn't seem to work in my case, I get a invalid number message. I submitted a web request to Nextel, but never heard back from them. I've seen other posts similar to this one, but they either don't have
answers to them, or they're not quite the same problem I'm having. I'm
running Gentoo Linux, and trying to set up sendpage as a pager gateway
with Nagios. Sendpage doesn't seem to be initializing/talking to the
modem correctly. It's an external USR 14.4 Sportster modem, attached to
com1. Minicom sees and talks to the modem just fine, and I can use it
to dial out and connect. Any thougts/suggestions on how to solve this
are welcome, output and system details bellow:

# There are four majors sections:
# - global Any global settings
# - "modem" Each modem's settings
# - "pc" Each Paging Central's settings
# - "recip" Each recipient name's settings
#
# Except for global, each section starts with the section name in
# []'s. So, to define a modem named "sportster", the section name
# would be "[modem:sportster]", and all of the sportster's settings
# would follow.
#
# section names cannot have "=", "@", or ":" in their text.
#
# For each major section, I go through all the default values

# just comment in the variable name, and change the value to something

Brian, Tried upgrading to v1 myself the other day and had the same problem. Did some more debugging on it today and discovered that (at least in my case) the Sendpage perl modules from the previous version were a) not overwritten, b) not removed. Hence the sendpage daemon was loading the older versions of the modules. I manually removed all Sendpage* files I found in my perl library directories and reinstalled v1. After that everything works fine. > I have searched the mailing list and have not found a solution to my > problem. Below is my config. I found out what it was. At some point recently, it seems that the PC we use went from stricttap to not. I found a similar issue from the archives of this list back in 2000, so I tried changing that setting as the thread discussed. =20 I still can't believe that was really the problem. I had to specifically set it to stricttap just last month because of garbled messages... oh, well, I guess. Thanks! It would probably help if I had finished this message before hitting
"send."

The page is still in the queue:
[root@spot2 pagenet]# more q111392423816079000=20
to: jklee1
FILE: q111392423816079000
attempts: 3
from: root@spot2
when: 1113924238
tuesday 3
However, I've gotten this page two or three times now.
It was working just fine a few weeks ago. I think this just started
happening last week, but I can't figure out what I might have done that
would have made a difference.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Has anyone had a problem with pages getting stuck in the queue for sendpage? I just keep getting the same pages over and over again, until I go in and delete the files in the queue directory. -- Janice Lee Systems Programmer Wharton Computing & Information Technology office: 215.898.5807 mobile: 267.918.5852 |

Does anybody have any experience with getting text messages to a Cellular One phone via TAP? Their tech support people don't even know what TAP is. (I know, what a surprise.) I can find 2 numbers on the web, the most widely reported one is 1-800-477-4550 and it is a TAP system. The problem is that I get this message back from their system: 512 Request Failed. SMPP error code = 00000066 It seems that 0x66 is: ESME Receiver Reject Message Error Code The other number, 1-888-878-7727, responds with this voice message: We do not recognize your number as an authorized user. No modem answers. (Sorry for the off-topic post, but I couldn't find another venue to post this query. Suggestions for better places are welcome.) |
