Semantic MediaWiki Extensions 0.1 released

The project Semantic MediaWiki aims at the inclusion of "Semantic Web" features into MediaWiki, the software powering Wikipedia [1]. Users are enabled to enrich wiki-articles with bits of machine-readable information in a simple and integrated fashion. Yet this data opens great opportunities for improved searching and browsing, and will allow developers to write software that feasts on Wikipedias immense knowledge. Detailed information and implementation plans are available on the project homepage [2].

The release 0.1 [3] is still a pre-alpha version which supports only some of the projected features. The implementation is installed easily as an extension module to the current MediaWiki. Features in 0.1 are

• support for typed links of the form [[link type::link target|link label]],
• rendering of fact sheet on semantic relations at article bottom,
• Special:SearchSemantic (alpha), featuring autocompletion for link types.

Further PHP development support is welcome: the code is not overly long or complex, and details for required implementation steps are well documented on the project homepage.
