A somewhat recent version removed the ability to see
post options separately from the user pic. This is a
problem for privacy concerns of people who post in more
public settings, or during breaks or lunchtimes from
work, who don't want the obviousness of a user icon
pulling in the notice of casual observers, or
coworkers. Many people can't, shouldn't, or wouldn't
post from work, but many others have more lenient
situations, where this poses no problem when done at
the right times, yet they choose to keep the fact that
they have a journal more private from passers-by. With
the user pic hidden, it is just another text-based
window that raises no notice. Please consider re-adding
the ability to hide the user pic itself, while leaving
the drop-down user pic choice in the post options area.
This could be done simply by adding an option in View-
>Options to never show the user pic in the UI. Thank
you.

RIght-click to hide it. Or manually set hideuserpic value
    to 1 in HKCU\software\alex semenov\livejournalu\user_

Thanks for the info. I had tried right clicking on the user
pic in XP at work, but got the same choices as the text
entry window. At home, on 2K, I installed the latest
version, made the change in HKCU, and rebooted, and still
the user pic came up. Right clicking on the image, I still
got the text entry area options.

Finally, right clicking around the image showed me that the
bottom 1/3rd of the image allows me to hide the user pic. I
guess the entry area's right click effect area goes below
the bottom of the entry area. Perhaps the textfield itself
    extends below the editable area?

Thanks again for your help. I'm glad that it also saves the
    choice between invocations.
