hi folks, imagine the following situation: a) some posting (call it X) contains interesting information for problem A. b) some posting (call it Y) refers to a similar problem B, but is posted later than X. The content of X is relevant for B, thus the author choses to set a relative hyperlink with target X within Y. c) X is not voted high enough for being archived, but Y is! This results in Y becoming an archive entry containing a link to something which is not archived. The thread containing Y may not be broken but understanding its content may be difficult now. Several questions arise from this problem: 1. Should hyperlinks between postings be converted into something usable when archiving these postings? 2. Should postings referenced by other postings inherit their flag 'to be archived' from the referencing posting? 3. How could 2. be implemented, remembering that the archiving process may refer only to some of the threads? Links between threads may be set in any direction regarding to thread history (but not to posting history - an older posting cannot link to a newer one). Michael Schröpl |
