#291 installation error 500 and more

I've got several isues after installation of 5.0.6 as well as 4.3.29, First of all it was not possible to install in a subdirectory. Well installation was fine but a login never succeeded. It kept showing the login page.

Secondly, certain modules always show an internal error 500. For instance "out.GroupMgr.php". And in that file it's the "$view = UI::factory..." that causes the error. How can I further narrow in on the cause?

Thirdly, the root directory DMS is shown as read only. Why? The permissions on the physical data folders all are 777.

Environment: shared hosting; Apache Version 2.4.18; PHP Version 5.5.32

I must be doing some things wrong since 4.3.29 is a mature version. But I'm lost after trying for hours. I'm temporarily using LetoDMS (Softaculous install) now but the GUI of SeedDMS is so much nicer and I guess the features as well but I haven't gotten that far.

Just a comment, which might help others. Since Seeddms can now be installed with the automatic webinstaller softaculous I did just that. Everything worked well until I enabled fulltext search in conf/settings.xml. The error 500 came up again. Changing back resolved the problems.

So it may well be that my problems while installing manually were due to the settings.xml. This file is worth a look when encountering problems. Seeddms shouldn't abort without giving clues toward the cause (unsatisfied prerequisites). But who's perfect?
