I understand what you say in the case of COPASI or RoadRunner exporting a SED-ML file. Now, imagine a large-scale project, similar in size to the metabolic network we published in August (33 authors, 2152 species, 1857 reactions), and some subgroups are in charge of the metabolism, some of the signalling. Phosphorylation in the signalling models depends on ATP, decided by the metabolic models. The consortium can write generic SED-ML files, that can be immune of changes in the initial concentration in ATP, set by the metabolic guys. But I agree with you. If you can use ChangeAttribute or ChangeXML, use them. But in the future there will be need of computing.
