This project is starting to look pretty dead, with no new release in nearly four years, despite the fact that some folks on the forum seem to have some good ideas, some of which may be implemented somewhere(?), eg http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1401534&forum_id=200424 .
So, anybody know of a location for updated code or good alternatives to securityFilter that work with current versions of servlet containers, eg tomcat, and that allow for things like single sign-on?

The fact that there has been no new release for quite some time can mean two different things:
1. The project is dead.
2. The project is mature.
I'd argue it does what it's supposed to do. If you are looking for additional features, feel free to develop them and offer a patch. This is how open source works.

I am using this project on a a very complex site. I used it to not have to tie into any specific web server's security and the fact that I could make modifications to the code.
At the moment, the lack of advancement on the project has me feeling it is a great weakness in my complex MVC framework. Would I have gone this way years ago? Maybe not.
Does it work ok for me right now? yes. Is it mature? no. Is there work that can be done? yes.
It is hard to complain, however, when somebody could take this project and make their own off of it. As the owner of the project seems defunct, maybe this should be done. Do I appreciate the owner making this code work? I sure do.
I wish I had time to do that, but i am busy working on several other development tasks.

I was considering taking over the project if Max wasn't interested any longer.
I see many places where the code could be cleaned up and simplified, and of course there are a few features that I and others have implemented and submitted patches for. The README file contains some other ideas ("remember me", which isn't that hard) and full Servlet 2.3 (yikes!) compliance, which ought to be done.
I may formally offer to take over the project. Is there enough interest in its continuation that it's worth doing? I certainly use it on my own project, and I recommend it to everyone on the Tomcat-User mailing list who needs more than vanilla authentication and authorization provided by the container.

I still use securityfilter and would definitely be greatful for someone to take over the project and evolve this quite useful tool.
Chris, thanks in advance for offering your services and I hope there are others that wish to see the evolution of securityfilter

I use it and have maintained my own local branch of some changes I've made. I don't have time to take over the project or do releases or anything, but if someone wants to take things over, I can send in some patches.

I still use this project and would be pleased to see someone else take over if Max no longer has the time. I can't offer any time to help, but I support your takeover bid!

Okay, it's official: I'm an admin on this project and am basically taking it over.
Please subscribe to the mailing lists -- they're much nicer to use than the forum (and faster!).
