Mailing list will not provide any advantage over the forum in terms of response time. You can subscribe to the forum and receive new post notifications, as many of us do.
On the other hand it will kill the only knowledge base available.
It is very cumbersome to search mailing list, where on the forum most of the time request and response are grouped, etc.

Er, I was talking about more timely responses from the admins, not from the readers.
If the mailing list is difficult to search through, then I suppose we can leave the forums open. I find them agonizingly slow, poorly threaded, and therefore more trouble than they are worth.
But I'll leave them open for now.

In an effort to provide more rapid responses, I'd like to shut down the sf.net forums and more everything over to the mailing lists.
