Following line should be added to base.conf (Apache's config file):
Alias /styles "/usr/share/base-1.4.1/styles"
"styles2 is nothing else but a subdirectory.
The same way as "includes". Once "/base" or "/base-1.4.1" has been mapped to a particular directory in your file system by apache, entering the subdirectory should not be a problem, any more.
On which platform and especially with which browser do you face problems?
