First of all thanks for your great effort.
I talk directly of another package which succeed well
on the UI and is pretty efficient:
PINs is a freeware I use on MS Windows
http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/pins.html
I think it would be easier to test it than going in all
details.
It has a lot of useful features but miss some important
ones like it's availability on other platforms (like
Linux) and a way to use it efficiently from multiple
location.
Some of its useful features are:
Automated login into Internet services (SuperPaste).
A powerful random passwords generator with its options
more easily accessible (useful for different type of
password) + a list to choose from, easier to remember)
Ability to launch software or url link to a password
with a keyboard shortcut
Turn on/off password masking
A cleaner tree management (more limited but avoid
duplicates on bad manip)
What I miss on SDM is the remote availability
More keyboard shortcuts for username/login copy, to
pop-up the application
idle timing or when the app is minimized should auto
lock the app
a password to unlock the app rather than a user/pass
Better UI (categories management, keyboard navigation
through passwords)
Kind regards

Gregory, thank you for your input! It is good to hear what
people are wanting and using in regards to features.
I'm going to ask that you describe some of your features in
more detail. Some of the items are ones that we have
thought about too, but haven't decided if/how they would be
used.
1) remote availability - how? applet? connected to your own
server serving up the data?
2) idle timer - only when minimized? or when not used?
3) only password needed to unlock - meaning your username
was filled in?
(passcode = username + password (either of which could be
blank if you wanted))
Thanks!

Dear Charles,
In reply to your questions:
1) remote availability - how? applet? connected to your own
server serving up the data?
It would be good to not have to install any software but I
don't know how hard it would be to transpose this app as an
applet.
However the data file containing the passwords should not be
world readable even encrypted. I don't know much about
applet in general but it might be useful if it allows a
single login to access the app and the data while protecting
against brute force attacks.
My interest in remote access is easy access in a safe way
from multiple location but from one location at a time with
the ability to use the app features from anywhere. But as a
start safe consulting of password is a good step. However
the ability modify and add passwords from remote location is
a feature that I'm really really looking for.
2) idle timer - only when minimized? or when not used?
an option that let users choose because on windows and linux
the desktop is different (the systray contrast with multiple
desktops)
3) only password needed to unlock - meaning your username
was filled in?
(passcode = username + password (either of which could be
blank if you wanted))
It is not evident for the average Joe user. But what's
expected if filling only the user and not the password ?
It's nearly the same than no password
In addition, the launch of other app or url with an advanced
paste feature (user (tab) pass (enter) for ex) is something
that makes me do a real use of good passwords in everyday tasks
Thank you for your time.

We could associate URLS with passwords as well.
Features Requested Summary:
(I think we should do #3)
= can't see a way to do this in Java
= there is one in the preferences and CTRL+G to generate.
Ability to launch software or url link to a password with a keyboard shortcut. More keyboard shortcuts for username/login copy, to pop-up the application.
= Good idea: keyboard shortcuts needed for browser launch, username and password copies
Turn on/off password masking
= we have that (CTRL+H)
= not sure what was meant by this one.
= solved with cloud file
= I don't think we have an idle timer yet, but we do have lock on minimized now.
= If you don't type in a username, then typing in just password works.
= Another request had some improvement suggestions on the UI for the Tree view (using categories / types for the tree view).
