the 2nd installation testing example is missing declaration of char testing.
Actually, after looking at another tutorial page, I see that the intention was that, testing, should be in quotations. I guess either declaring testing as a char array or putting it in quotation will allow the test.c to be compiled.
you are right. And thanks for reporting.
This is a glitch in the generation of the html doc.
The pdf documentation http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/doc/sdccman.pdf
(which I'd consider the authoritative output format) in chapter
"2.7 Testing the SDCC Compiler" has it right (within quotes).
(chapter 2.6 says "Currently reading the document in pdf format is recommended,"
but evidently the conversion to html is not allowed to swallow quotes.)
Until this is fixed, please use the pdf documentation.
Since we no longer generate the HTML version of the documentation (due to problems like this) I consider this item out of date.
