I wanted to interact with the simulator through an xterm much the same way that I interact with my devboard through a terminal program. It turns out that this is somewhat tricky... This would be MUCH easier if s51 supported a command line option like -Z that would put all serial input and output on a network port. But, alas, it appears that this feature is not in yet. So, here's how to get almost the same thing: 1) Make your input and output pipes: % mkfifo fin fout 2) Start up an xterm that listens to one pipe and dumps output to the other: % xterm -e bash -c "(bash -c 'while true; do cat fout; done' &); cat > fin" 3) Now, every time you start your simulator, specify that serial communication should be on those fifos: s51 -t 80C52 -Sin=fin,out=fout wumpus.hex As long as you leave the xterm open, you may start and stop the simulator at any time. Simply close the xterm when you're done -- all processes should exit. I'm not proud of it, but it does what I want. :) -- Scott Bronson <br...@ri...> |

That's great news! However, -k is not mentioned in the html docs, nor is it a part of the s51 usage message ("s51 -h"). I'm not sure how I would know to use it. :) Should I send a patch to add it to the docs and usage message? I notice that -H doesn't seem to work either (it just exits without printing any output). Any interest in a patch that fixes that? BTW, SourceForge CVS seems overloaded almost to the point of uselessness. Is anyone else having problems getting CVS requests to complete without timing out? - Scott |

Having said that, I just accessed the above CVS and it went perfectly! -- Kind Regards Terry Homemade pcbs using Gnu/LinuX gEDA/PCB page :- http://w3w.arafuraconnect.com.au/~tp/pcbs.html Gnu/Linux/Debian-3.0 Registration Number: 103931 :http//counter.li.org * Free Software provided by GNU; http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html |

I had to stop the nightly build, because the pserver access is unusable at the moment. Developer cvs-access with ssh is ok. Bernhard |
