How about Asynchronous HDLC, or why not implement PPP, I here that the
serial protocol that GDB uses to communicate to the target is very robust as
well. Maybe like the rest of us you could implement your own. You could
always use STX, ETX, ACK, EOT and the rest. There are as many serial
protocols as there are pieces of string perhaps a lot more information as to
the application wouldn't go a miss. Someone like myself would be happy to
design a protocol and do the verification given the right incentive.

I am developing an application which requires serial
communication with PC.
Basic data transmission between the controller and the PC is
(Thanks to routines developed by Josef Wolf). However I am
decide on the protocol which will ensure smooth data
handshaking, error checking, master/slave mode etc.
Can somebody help me with suggestions or direct me to a
source where I can
get this information.
