Johan added this cool feature, I think he also added an ENVIRONMENT Variable to disable it, not quite sure what it is called. Hi, Its great that V2.3.1 includes the entire C line in the asm output, instead of just the line no. as in previous versions. This is really helpful! However the asm output of V2.3.1 also contains some comments " ;gen Assign" ";genRightShift" etc. Unless they serve some important purpose, can we get rid of them? The asm file would be more readable & uncluttered. Thanks, --Royce. |

Is there any documentation on this? I dont have Xram, so will the code still be generated?(Why?) What is the value of l_XINIT , s_XINIT etc? Who initialises them? Thanks, ---Royce. |

> Is there any documentation on this? Yes, the best docs you can think of: "use the source, luke" ;-) > I'm not using Xram. Why is this code still generated ? sdcc (the compiler) doesn't know at compile-time, if you link a module, which will need this initialization. And the linker is not smart enough to eliminate unused code. > Where are these values l_XINIT, s_XINIT, etc. found ? It's the length and the start of the XINIT-segment. > Who initialises them? The compiler defines XINIT-segments, the linker puts them together. Bernhard |

Hi, I was really pleased to see that v2.3.1 includes the entire source line in the asm output, instead of just the line no. as in previous versions. This is very helpful, thanks! However, there are also some comments like ";GenAssign", ";GenLeftShift" etc. Unless they serve a really useful purpose, can we get rid of them? This will make the asm output more readable & uncluttered. Thanks, ---Royce. |

Dear Bernhard, Is there any documentation on this? I'm not using Xram. Why is this code still generated ? Where are these values l_XINIT, s_XINIT, etc. found ? Who initialises them? Thanks, ---Royce. -----------------Original Message--------------- addc a,#l_XINIT>>8... etc.... This initializes data in XRAM at startup. If you define e.g. xdata char str[] = "This is a real long and boring text!"; SDCC 2.3.0 generated very inefficient code: mov dptr,#_str mov a,#0x54 movx @dptr,a mov dptr,#(_str + 0x0001) mov a,#0x68 movx @dptr,a mov dptr,#(_str + 0x0002) ... SDCC 2.3.1 gathers these data in special segments, so that it can be initialized in a short., efficient loop. |
