I felt that the discussion last week or so on arrays finished without a
plan. I see two issues:
1. the code generation stage takes huge amounts of RAM. A program I'm
compiling contains a 20K array and it eats all of my memory (256M
physical + 128M swap) before running out.
2. The code generated for arrays is hugely inefficient.
We can handle (2) for the moment while we examine solutions, but with
(1) we cannot compile small test programs. Can somebody spare time to
look at this?
