hi ulrich
i've searched for a copy of the 2.6.32.10 kernel but have not found 
one.  but now i realize that that's not really the solution. i think the 
time has come, as the walrus said, for me to learn how to build the 
package myself.  that way i won't be afraid of upgrades.  in a previous 
life i did some enterprise java development so i should have a short 
learning curve.
i don't want to wear out my welcome but if you could possibly just give 
me a couple of tips - locations of tutorials, etc. - i would be grateful.
