SCWM and Gnome2

I managed to make SCWM my Gnome window manager by editing the desktop/applications/window_manager/default resource with gconf-editor and modifying .gnome2./session as regards the window manager application to be started. Is this really the way to do it?

My .scwmrc loads the "gnome-hints" module, enables Gnome hints and registers SCWM with the Gnome session manager as one of the first tasks.

I would expect this to result in the desktop/applications/window_manager/current identifying SCWM as the current window manager, but no value has been set. The same applies to the resopurces "workspace_names" and "number_of_workspaces".

I suppose setting these resources is up to Gnome, right? Does SCWM have to tell Gnome about the workspaces? Will I have to do something in my .scwmrc concerning this issue?

Also, the control-panel application allows to start a configuration GUI for the current window manager. This works for SAWFISH, my previous window manager, but fails for SCWM because it does not know which application to start. Must SCWM register a configuration application? Does SCWM do it?

I don't know if this is the right way or not since I don't use Gnome.

As for the configuration though, sawfish supports Gnome configuration applets, scwm does not.  scwm does have a configuration gui available in one of the modules that should mostly work although I don't use it personally.
