Climb down - Animation is still good, but on arriving on the ground ego is drawn shortly as having climbed the stump
From now on both animations are skipped, ego appears instantly climbed up or climbed down.

Heh. Seems like, once again,it's like that in the original. The action of climbing up and down is actually handled in the scripts, so it's not trivial to identify or change the behaviour. However, since it does look weird, I'll leave this bug report open. Maybe either myself or someone else may get around to looking into it further eventually.
Like in the original, reducing priority
