Yesterday I tried ScummLinux for the first time and I have to congratulate you for your work and also for the idea itself. Until now I thought that Linux was complicated and I simply to dump for it, but now I know that it is true what many people told me: It is just a matter of choosing the right distribution; and yours is certainly the right one for me. Booting from CD and choosing from the available games. What would you need more?
I also had some problems running it (tried it on three computers):
Problems with the mouse:
The first computer has a mouse connected to the ps2 port and a trackball to the usb. Only the trackball worked. After unplugging the trackball and rebooting the mouse worked fine.
The second computer was a notebook with an internal touch pad at the ps2 port and an external usb mouse. With this configuration ScummLinux got stuck a the ScummVM logo screen. I waited for some time, but nothing happened. After unplugging the usb mouse and rebooting everything worked fine.
Problems with the speakers:
Probably not a ScummLinux but a ScummVM problem, but haven't used ScummVM for linux before, so I post it here first. On my notebook the speakers produced a periodic cracking noise with varying volume and, as far as I can tell, depending on the volume of the game music. On the pc the sound was perfect. My notebook is a Gericom with SiS 630 chipset.
Problems with SCSI:
I also tried it on my old pc, but my cdrom is SCSI and would need an Initio 9100U driver. I know that it is not possible to add every known driver to ScummLinux and I don't ask for it, but is there a possible way to add the driver myself, e.g. load it as a module?
Finally I would like to propose a feature request. I got the idea after reading the "no zftree" post. Without compression it is possible to access the games from windows. So I aksed my self, why not add a windows ScummVM to the cd. I copied the latest scummvm to a new "win" folder under "iso/scummlinux" and copied the scummvm.conf file (created by a previous run of the generator) to the new "win" folder, renamed it to scummvm.ini and changed the paths to "../games/tentacle". Finally I added an autorun.inf to the root directory. Now it does not only boot, but when inserting the cd with windows it will have a similar effect and even incorporate the games on the harddisk.
If it is not too much work, it would be nice if you could add a command line option for this, altough it is not a problem to do it manually.
Finally I have to say again that I really like ScummLinux I think you did some great work.
