Yes. Actions aren't relevant and thus were not included (and several
other features too).

Yes. In Visio you can add whatever shapes into your MSC drawing, but
these shapes will be ignored by all the automation, including all tests
and the Export function. I added dummy Action and Condition shapes in
the latest alpha version:

Now that I'm trying to actually use SCStudio, the main thing that ap-
pears to be missing is actions.  Is this because they aren't relevant to
the existing race/cyclic/FIFO validation tests?

I guess I can work around that by just drawing plain rectangles where

Don't expect too much of it. ;-)

The term "together" seems misleading. The user instructions (and the
installation package) are included in the official release page:

This is a bit tricky: the red-marked drawing is a new Visio drawing.
Your original drawing remains untouched (but hidden behind). Just close
the red-marked drawing, fix the violation and re-run the check.

A general question...the web site says "User Instructions can be down-
loaded together with the installation package." but after installing I
see no documentation in the install directory or in Visio's help.  Am I
missing something?

Then, a more specific question...clicking "show" for a violation turns
things red and adds red circles.  Am I supposed to manually delete the
red circles, and change message & text colors back to what they were,
after fixing a violation?

This is probably not the reason, but I always use the Templates/Stencils
path without the second "Sequence Chart Studio", i.e.

- Templates
    "C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\stencils"
- Stencils
    "C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\stencils"
- Add-ons
    C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\bin

Just my 0.02 $/Euros...I wouldn't worry about that too much.  As long
as at least one representation is available, the urgency of supporting
alternate ones is pretty low IMO.

Understood; that's why I didn't want my specific issues taking too much
of your time.

But re the checking...I made an intentionally cyclic MSC, and the check-
er finds the violation.  But clicking the "show" link yields an error
dialog titled "Sequence Chart Studio" with the message "Failed to open a
MSC document template." and an <OK> button (this is better than 0.2.7,
in which clicking on "show" crashed Visio).

I installed to C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio and my Visio file
path settings are:
- Templates
    "C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\stencils\Sequence Chart Studio"
- Stencils
    "C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\stencils\Sequence Chart Studio"
- Add-ons
    C:\ProgramFiles\SequenceChartStudio\bin

After doing additional tests, I believe that the error you reported is
caused by missing/wrong configuration entries in Windows registry. I
enhanced the installer so it configures also the Visio 2007, if
installed. This should fix it.

I'm very grateful for any complaints. One can never test a software
under all conditions.

Timers, time constraints and a time constraints consistency check will
be included in next release (July 2009?). I'm currently struggling with
Visio stencils, because not every graphical representation of timers
described in Z.120 can be easily drawn using stencils.

BTW, feature requests are also welcome. Especially those that require
some data processing/conversion or verification/validation algorithms.
The scstudio aims to be calculation tool, not "just" a drawing tool.

Yes, please. There is a new alpha version that should work under both
Visio 2003 and Visio 2007.

Before hearing back from you I tried manually opening the add-on's files
from within Visio [1] and was able to get it to work.  I could make a
simple diagram, check it and get an appropriate pass or fail result.

0.2.7 works as well.  Though when I run a check and get a FIFO viola-
tion, if I click on the "show" link Visio crashes ("Microsoft Office

paths in Visio, I still get the same error when I try to run it from

I'm mainly looking for an MSC drawing tool, and SCStudio doesn't appear
to have the timer support I need anyway.  For now I'll continue using
the "msc.sty" LaTeX macros for my diagrams.

On the other hand, I'd be happy to test things if you wish.

Please check that you have:
- installed the latest alpha version at
http://www.fi.muni.cz/~xgottha1/scstudio
- set Templates, Stencils and Add-On path as described in user
instructions (the Add-on path you probably have already correctly
configured)

Does it still result in an error?
