Update: As the current version of ScreenRuler has various issues with display scaling, high-DPI monitors and calibration, version 0.10.0 will introduce a new scaling/ calibration mechanism. Please refer to https://github.com/Bluegrams/ScreenRuler/issues/52 for more info.

How to use this? It makes no difference for me when changing the setting.
I have a 1920x1080 monitor, using 125 % scaling (in Windows), and when starting the Screen Ruler and setting the width to the whole screen, it shows a size of 1536 pixels.
Calibrating the ruler and setting Display Scaling (%) to 125, I suppose should solve this, but nothing happens when I change this setting (and I have Pixels for Preview and selected Unit).

Unfortunately, the DPI and screen scaling settings of the ruler currently only apply to the screen-independent units (inches, centimeters...), so adjusting these settings has no effects on measuring pixels. The measured pixels are always the pixels scaled with the screen.
I'm working on improving the tool for screen scaling and high-dpi monitors.

I'm using a 17.3 inch screen (1920x1080), 125% scaling (Windows), and 96 DPI (I assume so because I've never adjusted it).
1) Pixel-wise: the screen ruler calibrates properly to 1920x1080 when using the method described below, namely the Override high DPI scaling setting from Window's property.
2) Centimeter-wise: the screen ruler can never calibrate correctly (I've stuck an actual ruler to my monitor FYI), regardless of my changing of the Display Scaling, Override high DPI scaling, or any combination of the two. The problem is 1 cm of the screen ruler is too short even at 100% Display Scaling, so obviously increasing the Display Scaling only makes it shorter. However, this website shows a screen-ruler just perfectly, matching my real-life ruler, all I had to do was select 17.3 for my monitor resolution (Monitor dimension you have specified: 17.3'' 1336×752).
Hope this helps your troubleshooting.

I tried to switch the ruler to cantimeters in "Calibrate the ruler" to use it in our online physics labs. However, the new setting is not saved and I still see on my screen a strange scale of the ruler that does not look like metric. Dmitry Garanin.

The value set in the "Calibrate Ruler" dialog only applies to the preview panel and does not change the unit used on the actual ruler. The actual ruler scale can be changed via the context menu or via the settings window.

I really liked Your utility, I decided to translate it into my native language, the finished files are attached, you can add them to Your utility.
Thank you very much for your efforts!
Please provide the non-binary *.resx files so I can add your translation to the ruler. Ideally, you could directly contribute them to the source code on GitHub where this tool is developed, but you can also upload them here if you wish.

version 0.2 good work with high DPI display
Or set up scaling parameters in Windows 10 in "Application" mode

Sorry to use anonymous, but I can not access my gmail here in China at the moment.
I love the tool, but admittedly I too have trouble calibrating. Not a big thing though, I can do it all relative.
However, I have 1 suggestion. Right now we can choose horizontal, vertical or both. But sometimes things are neither horizontal nor vertical, but under an angle. Would it not be possible to make it turn around one of its corners as well so that you can put the ruler under an angle?
And while thinking about it, I may even have an other suggestion. In order to place the ruler easily and accurately, maybe it would be possible to make a small magnifying glass at the point of insertion/point of measuring. Just to make it easier and quicker to place it exactly where you want things to be. At home on a 32" screen it is admittedly less of a problem than here on a 14" laptop though.
I am translating 1936 blueprint from an airplane to a scale that allows me to make a model airplane out of it. Most dimensions are there, but sometimes I get stuck and need the ruler. I love this tool!

Agree that there is still room for improvement regarding display scaling and high-dpi support. I'll look into this again some time soon.

This has been requested a couple of times already. Sadly I think it is not easy to realize with the current implementation of the app.

That's a good idea, I think I can consider this in one of the next versions.

The ruler indicator for "current" position is too high on the ruler so it's not easy to see. It used to be in the white space below the measurements. Not as bad on vertical. Is this a setting to adjust? See attached. Thanks!
I was wondering too, that the ruler was not identically with LibreOffice Cals's spacing...
For calibration I used LibreOffice Calc and I set the spaces between the rows to 1 cm and I changed the values so long the ruler display the correct spacing.
I use currently a Sharp HD TV (1920x1080@60 MHz) and the values of DPI in the ruler was to less, so far 68 DPI instead of the true value of 94 DPI @ 100% view.
Edit: When I set to 0.5 cm, the values are incorrect 🤔 I'm confused now...
Based on various feedback in this thread, significant changes to the display scaling behavior and ruler calibration are planned for the next version. There is a pre-release version available for testing. Please refer to https://github.com/Bluegrams/ScreenRuler/issues/52 for more information. Feel free to give feedback if there are any issues with that version.
