Could scintilla have soft tab support? That means, when pressing tab key, the cursor will move a width of the soft tab width. If this width is bigger than the hard tab width, then hard tabs and spaces should filled; other wise, spaces are filled.

Apart from a naming difference ('indent' versus 'soft tab'), how is this different from Scintilla's current functionality?

This is a little misleading: I didn't see any word like "tab" in the document of SCI_SETINDENT. Could you make it more clear in the document, please? I thought this option was related to the size of autoindent or something. Thanks.

If you want to see documentation changed then create a doc patch.
