I created two patches for my own use, and I am sharing them in case they are useful to others:
A patch that adds basic column support in scintilla.
A patch that adds a menu option in scite to increase or decrease columns.
These patches were created to make better use of wide or ultrawide monitors, where multiple columns can improve readability and reduce horizontal scrolling. They also make it easier to view different parts of the same file side by side without opening extra windows.
They are experimental and intended for personal workflow needs, but they may serve as a starting point for anyone interested in similar functionality.
Please review and consider whether these additions could be integrated or improved.

When I saw 'multicolumn' I thought it was going to be a way to isolate columns in a tabular file like a CSV or database dump then prevent (most) user actions from affecting other columns.
To me the concept is quite strange. Maybe it will be of interest to others. Without very strong interest from other users and downstream projects, I don't think the feature is worth the additional code size and complexity.
