When the check.if.already.open option is set to 0, it
is not possible to open more instances of Scite. The
first instance appears correctly, but subsequent
attempts to open Scite fail to appear on the desktop.
They appear in the task bar, and flash on the destop
for a millisecond or two, but do not open properly.

I can't reproduce this. Did you mean
check.if.already.open=1 as the purpose of that is to only
allow one copy to be opened. Have you modified any other
settings from the defaults? Which platform and window
    manager?

Nope, I mean when it is set to 0, i.e., should be possible
to open more than one instance. I just tried it with none
of the option file modified, and it behaves properly.
After a bit of testing, it appears that the offending
option is position.tile=1. If this is set while
position.left and .right are commented out, the behaviour
described occurs. I guess I can see why. The
position.tile option doesn't seem to do anything either
    way, mind you.

The problem with position.tile with default positions is
fixed and this fix wil be available in 1.46. It works if
you have an explicit left position set.
