Attempting to type *foo* (or similar) ranges from positions that are at the beginning of a line, but not at the beginning of the buffer, the Markdown lexer will refuse to highlight them due to a faulty condition. That condition has been patched in the attached file against LexMarkdown.cxx in rel-3-6-1.
