scimake is a collection of CMake scripts/modules/functions for simplifying the building of scientific software projects. It is licensed under the Eclipse license to encourage the sharing of these scripts

The key features are: Simple initialization which provides collection of versioning and logging Additional compiler checking Improved find_package which provides static and shared library information Improved package finding for common scientific libraries
The collection is small enough that checking out the repo and examples should quickly let you see if it fits your needs.
