[Scim-user] Honoka supports reverse Japanese conversions

Hi,

TAM-san released honoka-0.3.3.
It supports reverse Japanese conversions.
NOTE: Reverse Japanese conversions work on Gtk2 apps.

How to test:
1. Install honoka-0.3.3 and anthy-6829 first.
(anthy < 6829 doesn't support reverse conversions)

2. Kill scim and remove ~/.scim.

3. Run leafpad (or another Gtk2 app).
$ leafpad
Press Ctrl+space -> Choose Honoka ->
Type "kouenn" ->
You see some Hiragana.
Press space ->
They are converted to Kanji ->
Press Enter.

Then press Alt+space -> The word is highlighted ->
Press space twice ->
You can see some candidates.

NOTE: It is not perfect, because Kanji has multiple pronunciations.

opera-8.50-20050916.6-shared-qt.i386-en.rpm works (i.e. doesn't crash) 
without doing 'QT_IM_MODULE=xim'.  I read that the .6 version was built 
with gcc version 4 and gave it a try.  It is available from:

SCIM worked fine in the shared version of Opera in Mandriva 2006 RC2 but not 
in the current cooker since a new patch was applied to qt3 to 'fix kicker 
crash'.  So, in order to use SCIM in the shared version, I'll have to use 
the old version of qt3 included in RC2 or drop the patch and rebuild qt3 
from src.rpm.

  the bad is that no error msgs during start up and usage(of opera and scim). only when I close opera, it prints out 2 lines:

  ScimInputContextPlugin()

I can start opera-8.50-20050916 shared version without any problems

You should be able to see some error message in the cmd

  well, with 'QT_IM_MODULE=xim XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM opera'  it works with Firefox and Opera static linked version again.  But it still doesn't work with Opera shared version, I'm able to left-click systray icon -> Chinese -> Pinyin, but the word-selection panel just won't show up...

scim-1.4.2 (./configure --with-x)
scim-pinyin-0.5.91 (./configure)
skim-1.4.2 (./configure)
scim-qtimm-0.9.4 (./configure)

   the above 4 all compiled and installed fine.  now the scim(skim)
works with Konsole, Kate, Kopete, OpenOffice...  but, it now doesn't
work with Firefox, and doesn't work with either Opera shared or Opera
static

  did I missed any package? my environments are;

export XIM_ARGS=3D-d
export PROGRAM=3Dscim
export XIM=3Dscim
export XIM_PROGRAM=3Dscim
export XMODIFIERS=3D@...=3Dscim

It does not work to me as well (with my posted software spec)
I would prefer shared-qt version if there is a SCIM workaround, since
some Opera feature only exist in shared-qt version.

This is possible through m17n library. A Bangla layout needed some 
special inputs like you said for Hindi, then it is done through m17n and 
the Bangla layout "Uni-Joy" is now in m17n CVS.

I downloaded SCIM 1.4.2 source and try to build it on my Debian 3.1 unstable box. When I run the configure scripts "./configure --prefix=/usr",  it give me error: 

configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in . ./.. ./../.. 

 

Any idea why? What should I do?

 

Does anyone installed SCIM into Debian by using the files from

http://chinese.alioth.debian.org/scim-experimental/ 

 

I have no idea how to use the files, download them individually (then, what is the working version combination I should use) or add the url to Debian source.list (I tried this and not working).

in SUSE 10.0. So if you want to use scim within opera, the only solution 
is to use static version of opera, which will use xim instead of qt3's 
immodule.

   It works with Firefox, OpenOffice, Kate, KMail... but with Opera, I
can't invoke the input panel, I've tried QT_IM_MODULE=3Dscim and
QT_IM_MODULE=3Dxim, there's no difference.

  So did anyone managed to have SCIM work with Opera?  what the
software spec you have?  Are their any workaround?

Yes, I think m17n-lib's input method is flexible enough to
achieve the behaviour you wants.  But, I want to know more
detail.

When you type "kf", what should happen?  Insert =E0=A4=95, display =E0=A4=BF
as preedit, and wait for the next input?

Anyway, please note that m17n-lib doesn't use Lisp.  It just
uses S-expression for representing various data/information.
Another solution will be to use uim in which you can write
an input method in Scheme.

Right, scim-tables doesn't (currently) allow what you want I think.

The best solution would probably be to generate the combinations with a program.
Otherwise you can use scim-m17n and add your typewriter table to m17n-db as a
.mim file: m17n-lib supports stateful input.  It would nice to have a utility to
convert/expand .mim files to scim-tables files IMHO.

I am making a typewriter input method using scim-tables.=20
One to one mapping of characters is working fine.

I have two problems.

First :

The typewriter keyboard map is a little different that most other
Devanagari keyboards.

To get =E0=A4=95=E0=A4=BF in *typewriter* I type as follows=20
=E0=A4=BF    + =E0=A4=95

To get =E0=A4=95=E0=A4=BF in other keyboard layouts I type as follows
=E0=A4=95  +  =E0=A4=BF

I would like to accept =E0=A4=BF  (dependent vowel) and then wait for a =E0=
=A4=95
(consonant), and provide the output as consonant + depended vowel.
How can this be achieved using scim-tables.
