Category: None Group: 1.4.x Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: ejstans (ejstans) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: dead-key characters don't work Initial Comment: After starting scim/skim, I can no longer type "dead-key" characters such as ~^"`' in xterm. Strangely they work in mlterm but appear immediately when the button is pressed so I can't place them over other characters such as ñ for example. I am using: OpenSuSE 10.2 with KDE Release 3.5.5 "release 45.2", Xorg 7.2.0 RC 2, scim 1.4.5, skim 1.4.5 (compiled with libscim 1.4.5). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michal Suchanek (hramrach) Date: 2007-08-23 13:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=404997 Originator: NO With 1.4.4 dead keys work when dynamic events are turned off but it breaks wine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michal Suchanek (hramrach) Date: 2007-08-23 12:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=404997 Originator: NO On Debian testing with scim 1.4.7 dead keys do not work with dynamic events either enabled or disabled (/FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic). I can no longer find the setting in the gtk config panel. Turning off dynamic X events breaks wine, it locks up when a menu or button is pressed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: ejstans (ejstans) Date: 2007-08-14 23:35 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1728362 Originator: YES Turning off Dynamic X Event makes dead-key characters work for me... What is "Dynamic X events" and why does it eat dead-key chars? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michal Suchanek (hramrach) Date: 2007-04-18 08:43 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=404997 Originator: NO For me dead keys do not work with scim 1.4.4 on Debian, and they sometimes do with scim 1.4.5 on Gentoo. It is possible to write them with English/European input method. However, using this input method is far from convenient. One has to - enable scim - select the method with mouse (or configure and memorize a key shortcut) If the dead keys worked when scim is not enabled (ie the panel is hidden in the default setup) scim would be much easier to use. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: zir0faive (zir0faive) Date: 2007-03-20 12:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1731164 Originator: NO After toggling the "dynamic X event" option on, it appears that dead keys will only work if I choose "Français/Clavier > Français/Européen" (French/Keyboard > French/European) as input method. They still won't work when setting input method to "Clavier" (Keyboard). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: LiuCougar (liuspider) Date: 2007-02-28 10:21 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=600121 Originator: NO try toggling one option in scim-setup: dynamic X event ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: zir0faive (zir0faive) Date: 2007-02-28 10:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1731164 Originator: NO The same goes for me. I add to the list of non-working dead-keys the ¨ character, useful in french. I'm using: Debian Etch/Sid, KDE 3.5.5, Xorg 7.1.0, scim 1.4.4, skim 1.4.4 . ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=650539&aid=1668290&group_id=108454 |
