Even passing into Japanese keyboard mode, I can't write correctly in Japanese with a French AZERTY keyboard.

And on French keyboard mode, the keys 0123456879 above letters are useless.

It would be nice to have a mode that changes the keyboard alone and doesn't use the existing keyboard mode.

    Hello,

    I use Scim with AZERTY.
What kind of imput mehtod do you use ?

I use ATOK, with kana in same place as in japanese keyboard (except one missing key).

But I had to make some change in french keyboard to use it easily.
    Thanks to Fabian Hombsch's help.

    I changed a very few key, for example I exchanged "é" and "~", "è" and "`", "ç" and "^", ...
I wanted to use 0123456..., but with this method, I don't need it.

    And I can write ー or 」.

    I created a file :
    /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fr_japanese

When I log in with $LANG=ja_KP.UTF-8, I use this keyboard, using :
    setxkbmap fr_japanese

I added a button on gnome to switch easily to french keyboard, when I need to write french,
specialy when I have to use "^" and "¨" !
    Because with this special keyboard config, I have to use <ALT GR> to write é, è, ç, à ...
    but I can't write â, ë !

I can give you more details if it correspond to your problem.
I can explain every things I changed, you will adapt.

    Christian
