The attached PGN has three games, in each of which each player's name has one or more non-ASCII characters, viz.: Lenič, Luka; Šarić, Ivan; Velimirović, Dragoljub; Soćko, Bartosz; Pachman, Luděk; and Cyborowski, Łukasz.
These games are imported just fine by Scid vs. Mac. In particular, the PGN window properly renders the non-ASCII unicode characters in the [White "Pachman, Luděk"]
and [Black "Cyborowski, Łukasz
] tags.
However, the Game List's display of White's and Black's names is garbled, choking on these non-ASCII characters. The non-ASCII character is dropped and either (a) replaced by a space or replaced by a different character. See screen shot.
Since the characters are rendered perfectly in the PGN window, the importation of the PGN seems fine, and as well the representation of the names in the database seems fine.
Thus it seems like perhaps there's just a character-set issue in the Game List display itself.
Yeah.. this isn't good, and i am not familiar with the code.
You can fix this by removing the two lines like this in the scid gui (/Applications/ScidvsMac.app/Contents/MacOS/scid)
set values [encoding convertfrom $values]
And i have committed this change to subversion too.
Whether this is a feasible long term solution/hack, i am not sure, and will try to do some testing.
