Hmmm - Peter's original email was for Mac , not Windows. Ooops, sorry. Mac TCL/TK is just ordinary. I think the next macOS release will remove support for 32bit apps (64 bit TCL/TK is basically broken) and we will have to use docker images (hopefully Kayvan will find time to update them). But it is not a pressing issue for me. Imho Apple/Tim Cook has deprecated macOS (in-lieu of iOS) enough for me to keep using El Capitan for the forseeable future. They are a phone manufacturer basically. In last two quarters of 2018, Mac sales revenue is less than 10% of gross. https://www.statista.com/statistics/382260/segments-share-revenue-of-apple/ Still , I'm keen to here if anyone has problems with Windows when increasing the engine process priority. Really, it will not make much difference i think. If the only process running is an engine or two, they will receive most/all of the CPU time. Yeah... - i understand your point, but the power , complexity and history of Scid makes this goal kindof impossible without compromising stabilty, reducing features and requiring lots of programming effort. I think users though (myself included) want to use Scid Vs Mac to perform solid analysis of games and also to use engines for annotations and even training. If my Stockfish engine (or any other engine for this matter) is not performing at it's maximum strength it introduces a feeling of uncertainty with the level of analysis and play. Certainly I understand that the GUI front end of any engine will have a negative effect on playing strength, but properly managed will ensure the user is extracting maximum strength from the engine. Just a suggestion but I notice a LOT of options, tools and settings in Scid Vs Mac. I think some significant time should be utilized in streamlining the program and offering a cleaner user interface. Don't get me wrong, it is a great program but I think some simplicity would go a long way to increase the user base. Thanks for this great program! Regards, Peter |
