Just a short heads up that Stockfish 5 is out :) http://stockfishchess.org/download/ I guess it is by some measures the strongest engine now available, and after a short test seems equal with Critter 1.6 at fast time control (1m + .01s , ponder on, 2 threads per engine) on my linux box. One thing i'm curious about is the default "threads" setting. Critter defaults to 4 threads (or is that #cpucores?), while stockfish defaults to 1 Critter 1.6 option name Threads type spin default 4 min 1 max 32 Stockfish (svn) option name Threads type spin default 1 min 1 max 128 Will an engine always run stronger with more threads ? |
