Program Files is the correct place to install on Windows. What is not 
correct is to store user data there.

It should be installed where everyone can use it (and so
\Program Files\scidvspc but user data must be stored in their own space 
so one user's preferences don't affect other users.

I installed it to a friend's Win8 laptop today, and was disappointed to 
see it would not start.
