Yes, they can live together. I simply got a svn snapshot, then build
and installed it. I mean scidvspc, of course. So if I want to use this
one I open a terminal and type scid. Otherwise, for Scid packaged in
Ubuntu I use K menu (or whatever else you are using)

I don't know ! I'm still learning to manage chess databases.
