Just a note about my vague plans are for the next release. I haven't been making many huge new features, but there's been plenty of incremental little stuff, so i'll have to make a release sometime in the next three or four months. I finally tested it properly on Win7, and found a few issues, so hopefully i'll get rid of these for Scid vs. 4.9. Recent new features include search entry boxes in the crosstable and engine log windows. In engine analysis, right clicking the AddVar button will add the *second*variation (if Multi PV enabled). Fics has a right click menu for a few little options. The Material difference sidebar can now also show *all* the pieces off the board. It's not very useful imho, but a nice touch - just like you'd see on a real chessboard when the taken pieces are put to the side. And I recieved a nice mail today, and have attached it. S.A. Hi, just a short note to say Thank You for creating Scid vs. PC, which is, in my opinion, the best free chess interface available at the moment. I've tried Scid, Arena, ChessPad and Tarrasch but none really worked well for me. Scid crashed often (Win7 x64) and has the ugliest UI I've ever seen in any program. Period. Arena lacked key features like engine annotation & database search. Also has a very confusing UI. ChessPad is unfinished & only really useful for producing diagrams. Tarrasch is very simplistic & lacking even in basic features. Scid vs. PC has a clean, crisp UI, crashes far less often than Scid (it's never crashed on me except when importing large PGN files), and seems less buggy (eg. keyboard shortcuts don't just stop working arbitrarily) So thanks again and keep up the good work. I'm recommending Scid vs. PC to everyone I know who plays chess. Along with Chess Hero it's become and invaluable tool in my training. Cheers, R.... |
