Subversion is one of several source code management tools. Others 
include CVS, Mercurial, Git and Bazaar. Git was developed by Linux and 
his mates to manage Linux kernel source code and has been adopted by 
many other projects. CVS is the elder statesman, but is being put out to 
pasture.
