From scidb-users list:

if someone was using a mouse-emulating pointer device and a "beamer" or
screen-projector a mouse-only-operation - while doing a presentation
rather than sitting at the desk in front of a keyboard - this is very
convenient. e.g. one could use RIGHT-button dragging for arrow painting
and left-button-dragging for piece movement.

Mouse only movements are reserved for piece dragging. What's the problem
with pressing Ctrl? But probably a special "annotation" mode is appropriate,
in this mode piece dragging needs Ctrl, and annotation does not need Ctrl -
vice versa to the normal input mode.

Thus I think a special annotation mode is quite useful.
