#110 ECCN request export classification

Hello,

I would like to request the ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) for SciDAVis (Scientific Data Analysis and Visualization) 1.D013. This is a very time-sensitive request so a reply as soon as possible, preferably from a SciDavis developer, would be much appreciated. If unknown, please provide contact information for your Import/Export or International Trade Compliance team. Thank you!

Can you explain why an open source package like SciDAVis would even need an export control number from the US government? We went through this with Phil Zimmerman and PGP is in the '90s, and in that case Phil was a US citizen, but with SciDAVis, most developers, if not all are non-US citizens.

Even if the developer is a US citizen, the product still needs an ECCN if it is going to be bought/taken outside of the country. My understanding is that this is a relatively recent rule, but nonetheless SciDAVis should still have one, even if it is open source.

I did take a look at the website, but I had no idea how to apply for
this. It is so confusing. Other than just making up a random number,
which seems to be an option. But then what's the point?

Maybe could you take charge of this?
