With the help of Iwu Okechukwu, Werner Haas reports how he can successfully load the photos of the players in SCID 4.6.0 for Windows:

(1) Go to players' data;

(2) Download one of these players' names files: spelling.zip, ratings.zip or ratings_utf8.ssp (experimental);

(3) Download at least one the photo files (FIDE.zip, wikipedia.zip, historic.zip, and photos.zip);

(4) Unzip your players' names file anywhere on your drive;

(5) Unzip the photo files in the /bin subdirectory -- no other places will work (for now);

(6) Load a spellcheck files ratings.ssp or spelling.ssp with Options > Load Spellcheck File;

(7) Make the Game Information Area active: Options > Windows > Show Game Info;

(8) Show the photos: Options > Game Information > Show Photos;

(9) Save your options: Options > Save Options ;

(10) Quit SCID -- this will create *.spi files;

(11) Restart SCID.

Werner also reports that when he replays Capablanca c. Tarrasch, St. Petersburg 1914, he can see their portraits underneath the chessboard. Tarrasch won that game.

Refer to the README on players' data for more information on each file.
