EditTclFiles

SCID's interface is built in the Tcl/Tk scripting language.
Its Tcl files, with the .tcl file extension, are located in /bin/tcl subdirectory.

The SCID code written in Tcl don't require to be compiled to run.
These files are in plain text and can be opened using a text editor.
It is therefore possible to edit all the SCID files using a text editor.

Can You Give An Example?

Suppose you want to improve upon the Italian translation.

First, Open the language file with a text editor:

/tcl/lang/italian.tcl

Second, add your edits, e.g. you could modify line 14:

menuText I FileClose "Chiudi" 0 {Chiude un database Scid attivo}

to read:

menuText I FileClose "Chiudi" 0 {Chiude il database attivo}

Third, save the file while keeping a backup of the original file (see below).

Fourth, restart SCID.

Fifth, go check if the updated translation is correct.

NB. Untranslated messages are prefixed with:

# ===== TODO to be translated =====

so they can be easily found.

Can I Break the Code?

Certainly!

This is why you should make backups of the original files.
This is why you should test your code.

Just make sure that you follow the file's syntax and all should be well.

or you can send it attached, to the [MailingList].

The second solution is simpler, and the community could test your changes.
