On the UNIX systems, Tcl/Tk commands are run from an interpreter. Hence the scid file is just a text file, which starts like this: #!/bin/sh # Scid (Shane's Chess Information Database) # # Copyright (C) 1999-2004 Shane Hudson. All rights reserved. # # This is freely redistributable software; see the file named "COPYING" # or "copying.txt" that came with this program. # # To contact the author, email Shane at: sg...@us... I've just looked on a Windows system and see that scid.exe is an executable (binary) file. Hence I believe scid on windows will need to be recompiled. I don't have the development tools to do this. Looking at the scid web site, it says: ------------------ Installation Tcl/Tk For Windows users: the Windows download of Scid is an installer application; just run it to install Scid. If you want to compile Scid on Windows yourself, download the source package; it includes Makefiles for MinGW, Cygwin and VC++. ----------------- Hence I think to cure this problem under windows, one would need to recompile Scid. I'm not in a position to do that. If anyone is able to recompile and produce a .exe, I'm happy to stick it on a web site so others can download it. -- Dr. David Kirkby |
