I believe the current UI/UX needs a serious overhaul. While it may appear acceptable on Windows, it’s truly ugly and poor on Mac. It’s also sluggish and occasionally displays small, hidden pop-up windows behind the main window, waiting for “OK” or “Cancel” responses. These windows can make the app seem to be hanging or performing tasks, but they’re actually just waiting for user input.
Therefore, my short-term feature request is to improve the UI.
My long-term wish is to consider rewriting the entire app using a framework like React or R-Native. This approach would result in a visually appealing and potentially attract more contributors. However, I’m not sure about the difficulty of such a project or any potential constraints, such as performance or library limitations.
Overall, I would love to see SCID resemble the app at https://encroissant.org/.
I usually don’t argue over feature requests—everyone’s got their own preferences. But I have to admit, this one cracked me up. It’s probably among the silliest I’ve ever seen (I mean the request, not the person— we all do silly stuff, that doesn’t make us silly).
It’s like walking into a vegetarian restaurant and saying, “Hey, you know what would really spice up your menu? More steaks. I’m not sure how hard it is, but maybe check out how McDonald’s does it.” If McDonald’s is your thing, then just eat there.
Why force everything into one flat, flavorless sameness, instead of letting some software exist for the folks who value performance more than a web standardized interface?
An AI analysis of this response suggests an “insecure personality” and other issues. My analysis won’t be as pleasant!
Come on, you shouldn’t have argued as you claimed, especially when you’re clearly wrong all the way!
A more mentally stable project facilitator or developer on a public project would have addressed what could be considered a UI bug separately and professionally put aside any tasks deemed not doable. Alternatively, they could have left it open for people to vote, but it is clear that the current UI is poor — nothing wrong with that, even though it was good ten years ago!
Your comment is full of nonsense, never mentions assumptions, and isn’t worth discussing or even funny!
It’s unfortunate that people like this are in charge of public projects, but the good news is that it’s not that critical.
